Today I was shooting author, poet and performer David Jones for his new website ‘Celtic Eclectic’. The brief was for some simple headshots on plain backgrounds that could be used on the website as straight images or as cutouts. I used some simple lighting set-ups to get the images but there’s a lot of character in David’s face and it would have been cool to shoot in some context related environments. Here’s a couple of shots from the session but they really need to be seen large to appreciate the detail in the shots. This has got me thinking about changing the blog theme so that I can put much larger images up.
If you’re an actor or performer in need of headshots, call me on 01924 229800 to discuss your shoot.
Met up with Laura and Jason at the end of a very busy weekend of weddings and pre wedding shoots to go through their wedding plans and also have a photoshoot with them. We intended to meet at Pontefract Park as they headed back to Bradford after a visit to York, but unbeknown to me it was Pontefract races so the area was chokka block with folks. A quick detour and we were at Nostell Priory instead and went through the wedding plans before shooting in the grounds of Wragby church. Laura and Jason were great fun but they are a challenge as there is a huge difference in height between the two. Best get my thinking cap on before their big day at Cedar Court, Bradford next month ;¬)

Yet another cutting it fine pre-wedding shoot! David and Emma are getting married this coming Saturday at St Mary’s Church, Gomersall and then on to Oakwood Hall, Bingley. Oakwood is a new venue for me so I’m looking forward to shooting there and I’m keeping my fingers crossed about the weather - the long range forecast doesn’t look brilliant :¬\ Although Oakwood will be a new venue for me, David and Emma are familiar faces as we had a baby bump shoot together almost 6 months ago now! Scary where the time has gone really and their wedding day has just flown round. I’m really looking forward to their wedding because I go on holiday two days after and I soooo need a break right now!
Met up with Lisa and Steven at Kirkstall Abbey today for a pre-wedding meeting and a bit of a shoot. It’s less than a week to their wedding at the Holiday Inn at Tong near Guildersome so I was cutting it fine! We used the museum gardens for the shoot as Kirkstall Abbey looked to be crawling with folks due to the summer weather. The gardens, however, were really good and I suspect I’ll be doing a few more shoots there and it was devoid of people so no-one to bother us. Although it was a hot one today, its looking a little more unsettled for Lisa & Steve’s big day on Friday but I still think we’re going to end up with some great images!
Claire breezed into the studio today on what seemed like the hottest and brightest day so far. She’d booked to come over for a lingerie portfolio shoot - very popular these days - and we made the most of the summer light, shooting all around the studio to give us a variety of looks. If you’re thinking of a portfolio shoot to kick start your modelling or acting career, quite honestly, I think you’ll be hard pushed to get better than this anywhere in Yorkshire! Just give me a call on 01924 229800 to arrange your quality portfolio shoot, they’re fun sessions and very relaxed. For more information visit the portfolio pages.
Leanne contacted me a few weeks ago to arrange a family portrait shoot as a surprise for her Granddad’s 80th and so today there was a gathering of cousins from the Hunt & Crowther clan to do just that. We shot some fun, but formal stuff of the group that would appeal to Granddad’s tastes before shooting a some casual shots of the two sets of cousins. Framed family portraits like this make absolutely super gifts for mums, dads and grandparents as they are intimate, stylish and really personal and will give lasting pleasure as a large framed print or canvas wrap. To arrange your family portrait, just call the studio on 01924 229800 to arrange a sitting.
Abi dropped by the studio for a professional portfolio shoot today. She’s had a couple of shoots previously with amateur photographers but after not being happy with the results, she decided to take the plunge and go with a pro! Digital photography has made photography available to the masses and there’s lots of ‘guys with cameras’ that will happy to take a few images of you, but in the end, average shots, no matter how they’re processed on the computer, are still average shots! The advantage of shooting with a pro, is that images are correct at the taking stage! I’ve shot with film cameras as well as digital and I have experience in lighting, composition and even posing, so you will definately come away some some awesome images for your portfolio. All these shots of Abi are straight out of the camera with little post processing other than saturation and vignettes added. Abi had a pro make-up artist work on her before she came to the studio and the result of that is obvious too. All in all, it pays to go to a pro :¬) If you’re thinking of a glamour portfolio, just give me a call on 01924 229800 to discuss your requirements or visit the portfolio pages for some more examples.
Melissa is just about to head back for another stint on board the cruise ships, spending the next few months in and around the Caribbean where she works as a beautician in the ship’s spa centre. Before going back this time, however, Melissa decided to drop by VERVEstudio for a portfolio shoot. The shoot was a blast and working our way around the studio, we came up with lots of different styles in the various parts of the building. Here are a few of my favourites. To book your fun, friendly and professional portfolio shoot, just give me a call on 01924 229800 or browse the portfolio pages on the website.
Only about this time last year I was photographing Natalie and John’s wedding at Heald’s Hall but today they were in the studio for a baby bump shoot! It was good to see them both again and we had a good time shooting the various styles. I’ve just had a really busy couple of weeks and with two weddings later this week also, I’ve a monumental amount of editing to do, so here are just a couple of Natalie to be going on with. More will come over the next day or so hopefully!
Abi was a bridesmaid at Scott and Amy’s wedding a while back and my friend Jannine whom I shot the wedding with over in Keighley asked if she could bring Abi over to the studio for a bit of a practise session with the studio lighting. So tonight they came over and we also had the company of Sarah Aveyard as MUA who did a great job on the make-up for the shoot. Here’s some footage from the night and a few of the images we did for Abi. If you’d like to book a portrait shoot, just give me a call on 01924 229800 or send me a mail.
