Sonya was back in the studio today to add some more photos to her portfolio ahead of what she believes to be a milestone birthday! Her idea was for a mix of fashion and glamour shots to look back on now that she’s ‘knocking on’ - her words not mine :¬) So, that was the brief, here are some of the images. We shot some high key studio stuff then moving on to the bathroom set, the spiral staircase and apartment sets before ending up outside and shooting some lingerie with an almost Mediterranean feel to them in the warm September sunshine. Only had time to edit a few, so much to get through and so little time before tomorrow’s corporate shoot, but these images should give you a flavour of the day.

Air hostess Leigh hit the studio today during a leave period to have a portfolio shoot for no other reason than she wanted to! No asperations to become a model, just wanting a great set of images that she can put in an album as a keepsake. Partly she wanted to do it because she felt she isn’t photogenic and that she didn’t have any flattering pictures of herself and she said she always avoids having her photo taken - her fiancee had persuaded her otherwise. I agree with her fiancee and after the usual nervous start to the shoot, she was soon relaxed and enjoying herself. A petit girl with a really great figure and elfin face, she made a great subject and it was easy to come up with a mixture of portraits, fashion and some lingerie images that will hopefully convince her she’s not too bad looking after all!

Abi dropped by the studio for a professional portfolio shoot today. She’s had a couple of shoots previously with amateur photographers but after not being happy with the results, she decided to take the plunge and go with a pro! Digital photography has made photography available to the masses and there’s lots of ‘guys with cameras’ that will happy to take a few images of you, but in the end, average shots, no matter how they’re processed on the computer, are still average shots! The advantage of shooting with a pro, is that images are correct at the taking stage! I’ve shot with film cameras as well as digital and I have experience in lighting, composition and even posing, so you will definately come away some some awesome images for your portfolio. All these shots of Abi are straight out of the camera with little post processing other than saturation and vignettes added. Abi had a pro make-up artist work on her before she came to the studio and the result of that is obvious too. All in all, it pays to go to a pro :¬) If you’re thinking of a glamour portfolio, just give me a call on 01924 229800 to discuss your requirements or visit the portfolio pages for some more examples.
Tonight I hosted the first group portrait night at the studio using Maddy as the model. The evening was fully booked and I hope the delegates got both enjoyment and some good images from the evening. Maddy is such a natural in front of the camera and is very easy going so she makes the ideal model for those who are less experienced at shooting people as she requires little direction. It’s actually quite daunting to stand in front of someone on a one to one basis and take photographs and for me, the key to its success lies in communicating with your subject and building a rapport. Putting the model at ease is the key ingredient in getting the shots. As host, I didn’t take any shots but was simply on hand to advise, offer suggestions and tips and make coffee! I took three test shots just to ensure everything was well and here’s one of them. Proof, if proof were needed, that it is impossible not to get a great shot of Maddy!

After threatening to do it for ages, I’ve finally organised a group portrait night for photographers wanting to come to the studio to have a go at shooting with a model using the studio lights. The shoot will be on Wednesday 19th May and will have space for 5 photographers. Anyone shooting Nikon will have the chance to use some of my fast pro glass if they wish. To avoid disappointment book early by sending me a mail. The model for the night will be Maddy and I’ve done a small video from our recent shoot to give you all an idea of what you’ll be shooting!
STOP PRESS: All places are fully booked. If you want to be added to the list for the next shoot just drop me a mail.
Chloe hit the studio today for a glamour portfolio shoot. We really worked hard and used a wide variety of props and backgrounds to get what’s probably my favourite set of images from the studio for a while. All fairly simple lighting but very effective and Chloe was really great as a model despite it being her first shoot! Here’s a very small selection. Watch out for her on the magazine stands soon!

Had a long day in the studio today shooting the new web catalog for LoveSuspenders. Not nearly as glamourous as its sounds, it involved a lot of standing around while the garments were arranged perfectly and then I’d shoot to a given set of parameters so that there was consistency throughout the images. We shot everything on white backgrounds so that the images could be dropped onto background templates or have text dropped onto them. But then at the end of the shoot, I got to play and have some creative input as we shot the ‘impact’ images for the website. The impact images are more pictorial than the standard packshot or editorial image. I used the old cheval mirror and the boudoir wall to create a moody image that would show both front and rear of the garment in the same shot.
It’s getting kinda cosmopolitan in the studio of late what with Maddy from Latvia last week and Maja from Poland last night! Maja had seen my work on a modelling website and contacted me for a portfolio shoot quite a few weeks ago now, but last night we managed to hook up for the shoot and timed it with a visit north from my favourite MUA, Lyndsey Ward. Having a professional make-up artist makes a huge difference to the shoot I think, especially when they stay throughout the shoot and are constantly touching up the make-up or hair and also changing the style to go with the different outfits. However, it can also eat into shooting time too! Here’s a few from the shoot and as always, if you’d like to book a top class portrait shoot with me, just call 01924 229800 to book an appointment.
I had a meeting with some clients today to go the through the art direction for a forthcoming catalog shoot later this month (watch this space around 29th!). I’m supplying the model for the shoot and I’m using my regular studio model Leanne for the project and she’d also come along to the meeting to pick up the details for the job and also try on some of the clothes ahead of the shoot to make sure everything is going to fit on the day. After the meeting we decided to have a quick shoot as we haven’t worked together in ages! Here are a few images from the shoot, I love the lighting and its such a simple set up using only two studio heads with a softbox and a brolly reflector!
