Gothic wedding photographer: Adam & Laura

Well, Adam and Laura’s wedding will be my first as a gothic wedding photographer but I am looking forward to it very much. The theme is black and red and there will be around 120 steampunk and goths dressed in full regalia. However, I am hoping for better weather than tonight’s pre-wedding shoot which turned out to be torrential rain! The skies were clear and bright as I left Wakefield to meet up with Adam and Laura in a spectacular churchyard on a hill down in Nottingham near to where they live, but as I headed down the M1 the skies darkened and look threatening. Still, I optimistically hoped for dark thunder skies and evening light but that was not to be. We’d just got into the churchyard when the heavens opened and it absolutely hammered it down. We bravely tried to shoot a few images but really, it was torrential and we were soaked; my T-shirt was literally stuck to me as if I’d just stepped out of a shower. The camera gear was fine as it pro equipment and weather sealed but the Profoto B1s were not so and despite having them in a carrier bags as a makeshift weatherproof coating, the rain was getting to them. These are 500w second flash units and I decided I didn’t want my lighting assistant to get frazzled by a supercharge from the flash capacitor so we ended the shoot after about 15mins! Shortest pre-wedding shoot I’ve ever done but it couldn’t be helped. Here are a few images, but really the churchyard was superb and we should have got some amazing images.
