Wakefield Commercial Photographer: Staples store launch

Hotmareketing were looking for a Wakefield Commercial Photographer to shoot the launch of the new Staples store in Wakefield when they came across my website and kindly commissioned me for the shoot. The brief was to photograph the ribbon cutting and then shots of the busy shop as people shopped for the launch bargains and special offers. What I didn’t expect when I arrived on site, was for a queue of people stretching half way round Cathedral Retail Park waiting for the doors to open at 9.00am! The minute the ribbon was cut, the shoppers piled in and for the first hour it was difficult just to move in the store, let alone get PR shots! As usual, it was a chore trying to get people to agree to being in photographs, this just seems to be the norm these days, but it makes life hard when I am being paid to get photos of ‘happy shoppers’ yet no-one will co-operate. Fortunately, I spotted an old friend among the masses and got him to pose and, over the course of the morning, I did manage to get one or two others to pose too.

Lighting is always a nightmare in these kind of situations as the shop is lit by fluorescent lighting which has a sickly cast but I did my best to overpower this by getting a speedlight fitted with a 12″ softbox very close in to the subject. Here is a small selection of the images from the day.
